PRIMARY COORDINATOR

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another fantastic term at Sirius College. I would like to welcome all new and returning families to our wonderful school. The National Assessment, NAPLAN, took place from Tuesday May 9th until Thursday, May 11th. Over the past few weeks we have given the students an opportunity to practise the NAPLAN assessment. For some students the day is no different to any other day however, for some students they become a bit anxious about the whole “test” experience. We also need to remember it is a “snap shot” of one day in their education and it doesn’t define everything they do or don’t know. The test questions are related to the curriculum being studied by the students in their classrooms and the results will help us guide and develop students’ performances at our school.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

All Sirius College campuses have worked on a consistent new behaviour management plan. The initial step of the plan is to always create a positive learning environment followed by restorative practices to deal with issues that may arise in the classroom or yard. Staff had a briefing on how to use the plan and we are aiming to use a whole school approach, including specialists and CRT's. It will be a learning process, one in which we hope will prove to be beneficial to our students.

COMMUNICATION

We continue to value open and honest forms of communication so we can work as a partnership to provide the best possible learning for your child/children. Parents are strongly encouraged to communicate with their child’s classroom teacher if needed.

SCHOOL TIMES

We are currently having a number of students arriving at school prior to 8.45am. As there is no teacher on yard duty until 8.45am, no child can be at school unsupervised.

ABSENCES

Parents are reminded of their responsibility to ensure that all children regularly attend school. Frequent absences have a huge impact on children’s learning. If children are absent, a reason in writing is required.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Tarbinder Pandher
